You’re looking at around 2-3 hours or so to complete the main campaign, with an extra couple of hours or so to complete both DLC extra levels. It’s creepy atmosphere and the game’s art style – along with the great use of black and white and how lighting is used to highlight parts of each section – will keep you going from start to finish. I enjoyed my time playing DARQ Complete Edition. Add some new gameplay mechanics, and you have a pair of fresh experiences to extend your time in the DARQ universe. Each one will feature a new set of stages for you to explore, with new mysteries, new puzzles to solve, more creepy creatures and, yes, more nightmare loops to conquer. Since, as its name suggests, this is indeed DARQ Complete Edition, that means you will not only get the original game, but also a pair of DLC available at no extra cost: The Tower and The Crypt.

You’ll have to sneak around while their lights are off, because if you move within their range when their light is on, they will instantly shoot you! Add the way the game makes good use of the HD Rumble of the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con and the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, and you have a creepy game that will make you jump every now and then. Take, for example, the disturbing creatures that have a lamp for a head. On top of the puzzles to solve, there will also be some nightmare creatures for you to avoid.

While one of the gears is nearby, the others will be trickier to collect, since you’ll have to activate a handful of switches, use gravity to your advantage to complete a pair of puzzles, and then find a way back to said contraption. While exploring the darkest corners of his. To Lloyd’s misfortune, the dream quickly turns into a nightmare, and all attempts to wake up end in failure.

Once you start to walk on the walls to try and find a way out of the nightmares, you will find a contraption that will require you to collect some gears so that you can get it up and running. Welcome to our review of DARQ, a game where the obscure and the puzzle genre make one messed up baby DARQ tells the story of Lloyd, a boy who becomes aware of the fact that he is dreaming. Every moment was a high, and for that I’m not only impressed but appreciative. To give you an idea of what type of puzzles you will find, allow me to discuss a sequence early in the game. Having said that, I can’t deny the fact that DARQ had no filler content. I didn’t quite feel done with DARQ and yet the credits were already rolling. Although I can’t shake the feeling that there was more that could have been explored here, more that could have been dreamt up and implemented. In many ways that’s to the game’s credit, because it managed to create such a captivating experience for the player. However, in this case, I was left wanting more. The game is designed to be a moving artistic experience. As a busy adult with much adulting to do, I’ll never criticise a game solely for its length. Whether it was chasing a surge of electricity across multiple 2D realms or shifting perspective to move an object from your background into your foreground, I was continually impressed.Īt under 2 hours of playtime, DARQ is certainly a shorter experience. There’s a mixture of standard puzzling here, although it’s intermingled with the kind of brain-teasers that can only be possible in a game like this.

I never felt like anything was overly challenging to solve, but the solution to a problem was always clever and unique. Some of the game’s puzzles are just pure genius.
